Contract workers in Uttarakhand has started dharna programme against the retrenchment and also the demand for pending wages.

It is unfortunate that, the BSNL Management is out of the necessity of the contract labourers at present. So they have started the retrenchment programme. After introduction of SLA system and outsourcing policy, the retrenchment process has been started extensively. BSNLCCWF and BSNLEU both have protested against this retrenchment policy. In New Tehri of Dehradun district of Uttarakhand circle, the contract labourers are in sit-in-agitation for last 2 weeks against this retrenchment policy and in demand of payment of pending wages. The retrenched contract labourers are continuing sit-in-agitation before the AGM/DGM at New Tehri. On the plea of abolition of Land Line and Land Monetisation, number Telephone exchanges have been closed and for this reason only, the management got a chance to stop the tender process for engagement of labourers. Actually the management is trying to retrench the leaders who are involved in union activities. This is happening in various states also. BSNLEU, Uttarakhand circle, has already taken up the issue with the BA administration. On behalf of BSNLEU demand has been raised before GM Dehradun to stop the policy of retrenchment and to clear the pending wages of the contract labourers.
