The ongoing struggle of contract workers in Ahmednagar and Beed districts of Maharashtra Circle is a good example of how determined and united action can achieve results even in difficult circumstances. The agitational programme, which commenced on 25.05.2026, has already achieved significant success in advancing the genuine demands of contract workers, including revised minimum wages, EPF/ESI benefits, timely wage payment, and strict compliance with labour laws. At the conciliation meeting held on 16.06.2026 before the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Nagpur, around 25 workers participated under the leadership of Com. Bhaskar Lad, President, and Com. Waseem, ADS, Beed. BSNL management was represented by a DGM and an AGM. During the proceedings, the Dy. CLC directed the BSNL management to strictly implement minimum wages, EPF, and ESIC provisions in all tenders. She also objected to the practice of calculating wages on an hourly basis and directed the management to produce records of such tenders issued during the last two years at the next hearing scheduled for 24.06.2026. The united struggle of the workers has compelled the BSNL management to answer before the labour authorities and has emerged as a major victory for the contract workers’ movement. It stands as an inspiring instance of how collective action can effectively defend workers' rights and secure implementation of statutory labour protections.
