Non - payment of wages regularly to Contract Workers – Meeting with Director (Finance) Corporate Office.

BSNLCCWF CHQ is regularly getting a very serious complaint about nonpayment of monthly wages to contract workers in various circles, though the Corporate Office is making payments regularly to contractors towards the wages of the contract workers. Some Circles, viz., Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Kolkata, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh etc., have organized agitational  programme and submitted memorandum on the subject to their circle administration.  On 11th June 2024, the CHQ leadership met PGM (SR) Corporate Office and pointed out the grievances with a demand to clear all the pending bills related to wages for the financial year 2023-24.

On 5th July 2024, in a scheduled meeting held with Director (Finance) Shri Rajiv Kumar, BSNLCCWF Secretary General Com.Animesh Mitra and BSNLEU CHQ AGS Com. C K Gundanna explained in detail with regard to the nonpayment of wages and the problems faced by contract workers and their families.

The Director (Finance) informed the union representatives that the corporate office is maintaining a good practice of clearing the bills, forwarded by CGM/IFAs of the Circle. The union representatives registered their dissatisfaction, as the salary of the workers is pending, despite the contractors bills are paid by Corporate Office. The union representatives urged that there should be a monitoring at the Corporate Office level, to improve the situation of making salary payments regularly.

While concluding the meeting, the Director (Finance) informed the union representatives that the Corporate Office has taken steps in introducing a separate portal for Contractors, in which many basic details have to be filled and updated by Contractors, in order to see that their bills are honoured. The Director (Finance) also assured that suitable instructions will be issued to all heads of the Circle in this regard.
