BSNLCCWF has strongly opposed the discontinuation of tender procedures for repair and maintenance works in many circles, leading to large-scale retrenchment of contract labourers engaged in maintenance, housekeeping, guarding and electrical works. Since October 2025, around 300 contract workers in electrical wings alone have lost their jobs in West Bengal and Kolkata Telephones circles. Similar retrenchment is taking place in Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Bihar, Assam and other circles. During discussions with CMD BSNL in the recent past, the BSNLCCWF leadership conveyed its deep resentment over the issue and demanded immediate review of the situation. BSNLCCWF warned that the livelihood of poor contract labourers cannot be sacrificed in the name of expenditure curtailment and outsourcing, and declared its determination to launch agitational programmes against this anti-worker policy.
